Mobility Equipment Loan Service
Introduction
'Mobility Equipment Loan Service' (MEL) has been established since 1975 by the Hong Kong Red Cross (HKRC). This service is made possible through the continuous support of charity foundations, public donations and nominal charges of equipment loan. HKRC strives to provide high quality and low rent mobility equipments for the sick and disabled who require short-term mobility equipments.

To provide mobility equipment loan service to the sick and temporarily disabled at a nominal rate through their recovery period

Bad Weather and Circumstances Arrangements
If Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal No. 8 or above and/or Black Rainstorm Warning Signal is issued in 2 hours before the service hours and during the service, the ‘Mobility Equipment Loan Service’ (including all service depots and ‘door-to-door’ delivery service) will be suspended.
Deposit should also be paid for all equipment loans

Information for Hirers
- Application for equipment loan should be handled by the user or the guarantor who is aged 18 or above.
- All equipment loans should be booked by telephone in advance, please call depots for arrangement.
- After confirmation of loan date and pick up site, the guarantor should show the following documents and fee to respective service depot handling the application:
- A hirer's / guarantor's identity card or passport;
- A proof of guarantor’s address;
- Deposit and loan charges;
- Those old-age/disabled/sick hirers, who are the recipients of Comprehensive Social Security Assistance, may keep the loan receipts for applying Medical Rehabilitation Aids provided by the Social Welfare Department.

Methods of payment
- Cash payment can be made at related service depot, depot location and service hours of the depot please check here, or call our service hotline at: 2610 0515; Or
- Payment by cheque (made payable to "Hong Kong Red Cross") can be mailed to "Mobility Equipment Loan Service, Hong Kong Red Cross Headquarters, 19 Hoi Ting Road, West Kowloon". Kindly please mark user’s name and case no. on the back of the cheque; Or
- To transfer the rental charge through bank teller/ ATM electronic teller machines into Bank of China (Hong Kong) account: 012-875-1-144458-5. Please mail us the original bank pay-in-slip (Please mark the user's name, case no. & tel. no. at the back) to Hong Kong Red Cross Headquarters; Or
- To transfer the rental charge through FPS QR code. Please send the screenshot (including transaction amount, transaction date and reference no. must be clearly shown), together with the user's name and case no. to mel@redcross.org.hk.
Remarks: This FPS QR code is only for "Mobility Equipment Loan Service" (MEL) for payment purpose.
Loan Duration
The minimum loan period is one month. The payment of loan charge is not refundable but the loan period is extendable if necessary.
Cleaning and Maintenance of Equipment
All wheelchairs and equipment will be thoroughly inspected to ensure they are in top working and hygiene condition. We will maintain the equipment throughout the rental period as needed.
Collection and Returning of Equipment
- Please make appointment for all collection or return of equipment.
- The hirer or the guarantor can authorize a third party to collect and return the equipment at the same pick up service depot but a completed authorization form is required.
Loss and Damage
In case of loss or damage of the equipment, the hirer or the guarantor should immediately report the case to HKRC. Any repair or replacement cost incurred will be borne by the hirer or the guarantor.
