Hong Kong Red Cross Shun Lee Hostel
Introduction
Background
The hostel was first set up in 1968 at Tse Wan Shan Estate and was relocated to Shun Lee Estate in 1981. It was then renamed as Hong Kong Red Cross Shun Lee Hostel with capacity increased from 18 to 38. The hostel is fully subvented by the Social Welfare Department.

Aged 15 or above, moderate grade mentally handicapped persons

38 places (16 female and 22 male )
Fee
The residential fee is subject to adjustment as advised by the Social Welfare Department.
Objectives
The hostel has been focusing in providing compressive cares and residential services for the mentally handicapped. Through daily living skills, work skills and social trainings as well as providing opportunities for making their own choices in daily lives, the residents; self-autonomy and self-confidence were enhanced. These in turn help improve residents’ integation with the society and personal pride. The hostel also promote the spirit of friendship and mutual help among the residents.

- We develop residents’ potential through different kinds of training to enhance their healthy life style, enrich their life experience and cultivate their sense of responsibility and independence
- We encourage voluntary service. The volunteers can experience the caring process through delivery of service.
- We actively involve in community activities so as to broaden the residents’ exposure to the society.
- We foster residents’ self-determination and independent skill through encouraging participations in expressing their needs and opinions.
Admission and Exit from Service
Admission Criteria
- Actively occupied or being arranged for admission to a day placement
- Physically and mentally suitable for group living, such as physically healthy with no active infectious diseases
Application Procedure
- Applications have to be referred to the Social Welfare Department’s Central Referral System for Rehabilitation Services (CRSRehab) through the social workers of family service centres or rehabilitation centres
- Applicants will be interviewed by the Hostel to assess their suitability for admission. Prior to admission, applications should undertake a medical examination
- Formal admission will be granted to applications after they have passed a three- month trial placement
Exit from Service
- Parents / guardian can initiate discharge plan at their own wish
- Regularly assess the residents’ ability. We will refer them to suitable services, in accordance to their needs such as Day Activity Centre or Care & Attention Home
- he residents will be required to exit from the service when they can no longer adapt to the Hostel routine or violate the Hostel rules
