Yunnan Mojiang Earthquake 2018: Work Report
Situation Update
A magnitude 5.9 earthquake hit Mojiang County, Pu'er Prefecture of Yunnan Province at 10:31 am on 8 September 2018, local time. The epicenter was located in Tongguan Township of Mojiang County, with a focal depth of 11 km. Apart from Pu'er Prefecture, the tremor was felt across neighboring prefectures, including Yuxi, Kunming, etc. According to the local government’s report, as at 10 September, 105,800 people were affected by the disaster, 20 people were injured, 15,000 people were temporary displaced, more than 5,000 houses were seriously damaged and collapsed.
Red Cross Actions
Yunnan Red Cross (YNRC) has deployed relief staff to conduct needs assessment, as well as mobilized relief supplies, including 150 tents and 1,500 quilts to the affected areas immediately after the earthquake.
Hong Kong Red Cross Actions
Hong Kong Red Cross (HKRC) mobilized 1,000 prepositioned family kits to disaster affected area of Mojiang County for distribution via YNRC on 11 September, and is closely monitoring the situation for future action planning.

At the night of 11 September, YNRC volunteers mobilized 1,000 HKRC-supported prepositioned family kits from the warehouse. Each family kit contains clothes, mosquito nets, torch and daily necessities, etc. (Source: YNRC)
