International Service Leadership Programme - Background

“Fostering a tree takes 10 years, while fostering a person takes 100 years” — youth development is never a short term issue. University students, who will become future elites and leaders, can take part in international and local humanitarian endeavors if their senses of humanity and leadership qualities are cultivated.

“Today we sow, tomorrow we harvest.” HKRC believe nurturing university students to “Think Globally, Act Locally” would doubtlessly expand our power of humanity. The seed will grow and blossom in future and turn our world into a peaceful and caring planet.

To enhance Students’awareness on global humanitarian issues and build the global humanitarian youth network, ISLP hold “U+ Humanity Exploration Workshop” during the Red Cross International Humanitarian Law Moot in the past few years.
By working individually and in groups on humanitarian issues, students enhance their self understanding and learn how to cooperate with others. Also, hope to enhance their sensitivity on human suffering, for building up their humanitarian leadership.

To promote the idea of “integration”, and raise the awareness and concern of the public towards local humanitarian issues, ISLP organized “LIGHT_THE_HARMONY” - Youth Humanitarian Photo Competition in August 2013.
Through Humanitarian Voluntary Service, students have chance to rethink the real needs of service recipients and to reflect their own values of service learning.
