Providing Emergency Relief Services to fire affected people in Wong Tai Sin

In the morning of 9 September 2012, a fatal fire broke out in Chuk Yuen (South) Estate, Wong Tai Sin, which caused 1 household lost their home. On that day, the HKRC received the request from the Social Welfare Department at 14:35 and immediately deployed 1 staff and 1 relief volunteer to the Estate Office to assist the affected people. We distributed clothing and daily necessities to 3 fire-affected people from the same household, as well as provided psychological support service. The service was concluded at 18:00 on that day.

Thanks for the supports from our relief volunteers in this operation, they helped the affected household to resume to normal life by providing psychological support service, and shared their concerns, this is a clear demonstration of the humanitarian spirit of the Red Cross. During the operation, we provided clothing, talked to the affected household and helped them to locate community resources. Our emotional comfort service helped the household to enhance their psychological condition during emergency situation.

Our Emergency Relief Service depends on our 24-hour standby relief volunteers, which their dedication and voluntarism are highly appreciated.
