Winter aid program to Street Sleepers 2010

Affected by a winter monsoon, the Hong Kong Observatory issued the first cold weather warning in this year on 15 December 2010. The local temperature is expected to drop to 13℃ in urban area.

To assist the street sleepers to overcome the harsh winter, the Hong Kong Red Cross (HKRC) mobilized 7 staff and volunteers to distribute jackets and woolly hats to 49 street sleepers in Sham Shui Po. Knowledge on cold preparedness was also disseminated in order to reduce cases of weather related diseases. In addition, HKRC has dispatched about 100 jackets to six cold shelters to meet the urgent needs of the needy.
