Providing emergency relief service for the fire affected people in Kau Wa Keng Old Village
On 2 October 2009, a No. 3 alarm fire broke out at Kau Wa Keng Old Village in Lai Chi Kok in the afternoon. A total of 50 squatters and 180 residents were affected. 132 fire-affected people were arranged to shelter in Tai Wo Hau Estate Community Centre in Kwai Chung.
The Hong Kong Red Cross (HKRC) immediately dispatched 11 volunteers and staff to distribute clothing bundles and daily necessities to fire-affected people stayed in the Community Centre at night. In the following morning, HKRC staff and volunteers, jointly with the HKRC Psychological Support Team, visited the affected people in the village, and offered psychological support and further relief assistance to the needy.
