On 15 September 2009, nearly 100 residents and shops in Tai O were affected by serious flooding caused by Typhoon Koppu.

The Hong Kong Red Cross (HKRC) mobilized six relief service volunteers and staff to help three singleton elderly in Tai O tidying up their homes after the Typhoon Signal No. 8 was canceled. The actions included restoring the position of furniture, cleaning mud and trash outside and inside the houses of the elderly, in order to assist them going back to their normal life.
