On 23 Septmeber 2008, Strong waves brought by Typhoon Hagupit caused serious flooding in Ma Pei Village, Lei Yue Mun, and even destroyed several houses close to the coast.

Twelve Hong Kong Red Cross local relief volunteers and staff, visited several flood-affected solitary elderly and distributed relief materials such as quilts, clothing bundles and daily necessities to the seniors on 27 September. At the same time, the Red Cross volunteers, also helped to tidy up the muddy homes of the solitary elderly by removing damaged furniture and trash in order to assist the needy to go back to their normal life as soon as possible.
