Providing emergency relief service for the flood affected people in Tai O
On 24 September 2008, Typhoon Hagupit caused serious flooding and power cut in Tai O. As a result, dozens of affected-residents had to be evacuated. The Hong Kong Red Cross personnel arrived at the scene with relief materials ready for distribution immediately in the afternoon.
Based on initial assessment from the Social Welfare Department, the Hong Kong Red Cross immediately dispatched 6 trained relief workers, including 4 volunteers, to Tai O to distribute relief materials such as clothing and daily necessities to the typhoon and flood affected residents.
