The purpose of this service is to provide relevant disaster preparedness information to vulnerable groups before a foreseeable disaster occurs, so as to improve their disaster preparedness knowledge and awareness, and reduce the impact of disasters on them. On 27 January 2018, Hong Kong Red Cross provided the cold spell alert service to 164 elderly living in Choi Yuen Estate in Sheung Shui for the first time, reminding them to keep warm in preventing illness caused by low temperature and disseminating the knowledge of home fire prevention.
