Flood and Landslides Preparedness Program in Lei Yue Mun
The lack of maintenance of slopes and retaining walls is the major contributory factor to landslides. Rain water penetrates into slopes and accelerates soil erosion during wet season. In the past, flooding and landslides occurred in Lei Yue Mun after typhoon or heavy rain endanger the residents’ life and property.
To enhance the disaster preparedness knowledge and awareness of Lei Yue Mun residents, Hong Kong Red Cross mobilized 18 volunteers to visit areas on 19 April 2015 where flooding and landslides may occur. Knowledge on prevention of landslides and flooding, as well as bag with leaflets were delivered to the residents. In addition, disaster preparedness knowledge was also delivered to Lei Yue Mun residents through talks, video on slope safety and game booths, etc. A total of 411 residents were benefited from the program.
