Winter Aid Program to Elderly Singleton 2008/2009


Before cold winter coming every year, Hong Kong Red Cross pays visit to financial deprived singleton elderly and deliver cold resistant materials to them based on their need. It aims to enhance their capacity to resist cold weather thus illness caused by low temperature could be reduced to protect life and health.

The Hong Kong Red Cross mobilized 51 volunteers to visit 83 singleton elderly living in Lower Ngau Tau Kok Estate in Kwun Tong on 16 & 30 November 2008. Apart from distributing cold resistant materials like quilts, blankets and jackets, knowledge on winter preparedness and home safety were also disseminated so that chances of developing winter diseases were reduces and lives were protected. Besides, cold resistant materials were also distributed to needy by referral from elderly centres in Kwun Tong. A total of 780 financial deprived singleton elderly were benefited. The program was supported by the "Golden Jubilee Together Charity Foundation". 

This is the thirteenth year for the Hong Kong Red Cross conducting the winter aid program for singleton elderly and a cumulative of 37,520 people has been benefited.
