Winter Aid Program to Elderly Singleton 2007/2008
Before cold winter coming every year, Hong Kong Red Cross pays visit to financial deprived singleton elderly and deliver cold resistant materials to them based on their need. It aims to enhance their capacity to resist cold weather thus illness caused by low temperature could be reduced to protect life and health.
The Hong Kong Red Cross staff and 59 volunteers visited 115 singleton elderly living in various public estates in Shatin including Lek Yuen, Wo Che and Kwong Yuen Estate on 12 & 28 November and 2 December 2007, and distributed cold resistant materials including quilts, blankets, jackets, scarves, wool socks and wool hats. Through the home visits, the volunteers explained the importance and methods to keep body warm in cold weather. Knowledge on home safety was also delivered so a warm and safe winter was brought to the elderly. Besides, cold resistant materials were also distributed to needy by referral from elderly centres in Shatin. A total of 1,328 financial deprived singleton elderly were benefited. The program was supported by the "Golden Jubilee Together Charity Foundation".
This is the twelfth year for the Hong Kong Red Cross conducting the winter aid program for singleton elderly and a cumulative of 36,740 people has been benefited.
